Hands On Children’s Museum Shares Support for Salish Landing
“I appreciate your thoughtful consideration of this quality team who care so much about our community and strives to make the region a better place to live for all South Sound Families”
The Hands On Children’s Museum shared its strong support for Salish Landing, citing the Rice and Brewer families’ committed and pivotal role in the non-profit landscape of Thurston county for decades. Members of both families have served on the Museum’s Board of Directors and they continue to support the Museum by providing financial support for Museum Access programs that serve approximately 140,000 visitors per year with free or reduced admission.
The Museum supports the inclusion of the much-needed YMCA at Salish Landing in the project’s proposal. Hands On is a longtime partner of the Y and are currently working with the Grays Harbor YMCA to deliver after school STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) enrichment for rural students. The program’s success is a key indicator of the need for enrichment opportunities for rural students who have limited community resources. The strategic location of the Y at Salish Landing would allow it to serve residents in Tenino, Union and Rainier as well as the surrounding areas.
In addition to providing opportunities for student enrichment, Hands On supports the on-site educational elements that celebrate the historic Cowlitz Trading Trail.
