Squaxin Island Tribe Lends Unwavering Support for Salish Landing

After a thorough review of the vision for Salish Landing, the Squaxin Island Tribe has recommended that the Thurston County Board of Commissioners approve the project’s proposal.

In a letter of support to Mayor Sullivan of Tumwater, the Chairman of the Squaxin Island Tribe, Kristopher Klabsch Peters, MPA, cites the critical resources that Salish Landing brings to the 2,000 existing homes within 2 miles of the project site, as well as the fellowship and activity space that the new YMCA will provide and the project’s commitment to honoring indigenous history through its celebration of the Cowlitz Trading Trail.

The letter recommends the City of Tumwater’s prompt favorable approval, noting that a delay to the project could jeopardize the addition of housing and services that are needed in the community.
